In 1905, construction of the Blue Ridge depot was finished and the train was ready for passengers. By 1951, passenger trains had ceased and only a few freight trains continued on the railway. In 1990, local citizens began the restoration of the railroad, and the current Blue Ridge Scenic Railway opened in 1998. Now, over 78,000 passengers enjoy the Blue Ridge, Georgia train ride each year.

Once the journey begins, sit back, relax, and enjoy the 26-mile round-trip journey, alongside the Toccoa River. If you get hungry during the excursion, a concession car is available. Here, you can purchase sodas, candy, and popcorn. No alcohol is served on the regularly scheduled trips and it cannot be brought on-board.

The caboose can be rented for large families or special events. If you want something a little more exciting, rides with the engineer and conductor are also available.

Excursion options: Tailor your train ride experience

Any schedule can accommodate a Blue Ridge Georgia train ride. If you are limited on time, try the 2-Hour Express Tour. This excursion takes you on a 26-mile trip, with no layover. You will still see the same scenery as on the longer trip.

If time allows, consider the 4-Hour Extended Tour with State Line Layover. This excursion takes you on the same 26-mile trip, but includes a 2-Hour layover. You will be allowed 2 hours of time to explore the towns of McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN. There will be plenty of time to take in the local scenery, grab a bite to eat, or do some shopping before your trip returns to Blue Ridge.

Coach or Premier? Personalize your Blue Ridge Georgia train ride

Before booking your trip, you will need to decide which class you would like to sit in. Each option offers something different and exciting for your family.

Coach: You will be able to choose Open Air Coach or Closed Coach. The Open Air Coach has bench seating, facing the countryside, perfect for photo opportunities. The Closed Coach is climate-controlled.

Summer Rates for Coach range from $30.99-$42.99 for the 2-Hour Express and $37.99-$56.99 for the 4-Hour Extended Tour.

Premier: The Premier car offers additional perks such as a group photo, tote bag, a premium snack, and unlimited sodas throughout the trip. All passengers must be 18+.
